Synopsis for Combinatorics
Course Description
Synopsis:
An important branch of discrete mathematics concerns properties of collections of subsets of a finite set. Although there are many beautiful and fundamental results, there are still many basic open questions. The aim of the course is to introduce this very active area of mathematics, with many connections to other fields. We will aim to cover a variety of topics, possibly including antichains and Sperner?s Lemma, shadows, intersecting set systems, isoperimetric inequalities, VC-dimension and discrepancy.Reading List
Bela Bollobas, Combinatorics, CUP, 1986.
