The Graduate Modelling Camp is a 4-day workshop that aims to give participants hands-on experience of mathematical modelling under guidance of an experienced instructor. The Camp has been designed to promote a broad range of problem-solving skills, including mathematical modelling & analysis, scientific computation & critical assessment of solutions.

The problems for this year's Camp are:

Analysis of the static voltage drop in the power distribution network of a system-on-chip
  Dr Maria Agualeres
  UDg, Spain
Modelling a cadaver decomposition island to estimate time of death   Dr Sean Bohun   UOIT, Canada
How to measure the dissimilarity between patients based on their genome-wide DNA-expression levels   Prof Magnus Fontes   Lund, Sweden
Determining the deterioration of building stone in the architecture of Oxford   Prof Colin Please   Southampton
Nutrient permeation in hollow fibre membrane scaffolds for bone tissue engineering   Dr Rebecca Shipley   Oxford
CMP and the efficiency of the toothbrush   Prof Tom Witelski   Duke, USA

These problems are inspired by real problems that arise in industry or science. Following presentations on the Tuesday morning, participants will be formed into teams that will work on each problem. Scientific communication will be an important part of the camp & all participants will be expected to make presentations.

The Camp is designed to run back-to-back with the  73rd European Study Group with Industry (ESGI), The University of Warwick 12th - 16th April 2010. The Camp runs the week before the ESGI & the participants should also attend the Study Group wherever possible. In effect, the camp provides an additional problem-solving experience for Graduate Students as a warm-up prior to the Study Group.

Organiser: Dr Chris Breward

This Modelling Camp is supported by OCCAM using KAUST funds
