Industry

The Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics has a long and well-established tradition of working with industry dating back over 40 years. There are several ways in which we interact with industry.

Industrial Workshops

The workshops are a forum to discuss unsolved problems where mathematics may have a useful role to play. We are interested in a wide range of problems, drawing on diverse areas of mathematics. Workshops normally take place on Friday mornings during term time, but this can be varied, if necessary, to accommodate industrial presenters with time-constraints. Expressions of interest for participating in our workshop series are welcomed.

MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing

The MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing (MMSC) is run in cooperation with the Numerical Analysis group at Oxford. In addition to course work, the students' training includes a project and dissertation. Many of the projects are proposed by industry. If you are interested in proposing a project and sponsoring the MSc in MMSC, we would be pleased to hear from you. The students usually select their projects in the winter, working on them in the spring and summer. The time of the project-work cannot be altered.

CASE studentships

It is possible to take on a DPhil student, through a CASE award, to work on an industrial project for 3.5 years under close supervision from a member of faculty here at Oxford. The student would also spend time on the company's premises during the time of their studies. The cost of the studentship is shared with the EPSRC via the Doctoral Training Grant to Oxford.

Industrial Club

Companies can join our Industrial Club, ensuring that they have privileged access to faculty, regular workshops (see above) and other opportunities.

Consulting

There is scope for faculty to take on a limited amount of consulting work each year. This may be appropriate if the timing of student projects is unsuitable, for example.

Recruitment

Many companies are interested in employing our graduates. We work closely with the university's Careers Service, but also have some scope for other recruitment activities.
