gabber is a GNOME Jabber client. It also happens to allow communication with other instant messaging systems, such as ICQ, AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, and even IRC.
Xchat
xchat is a client for the Internet Relay Chat with a simple graphical interface. It can be used to connect to multiple IRC networks at the same time.
Skype
skype has an instant messaging feature for use with other skype users.
