Connecting to the Institute's VPN
VPN Setup for Windows 2000
Go to Start->Settings->Network and Dialup Connections:

double click "Make New Connection".

The Network Connection Wizard will start, i.e.

Click Next and choose "Connect to a private network through the Internet"

Click Next. In the Destination address box, type vpn.maths.ox.ac.uk and then click next.

Give the connection a name, e.g. VPN to Maths Institute. Then click Finish.

You will then be prompted for a User name and Password. Use the same one as you do to log in to the NT account at your desk. Then click Connect.

You should see some connection dialog appear, e.g.:

and then an icon appear in your system tray (bottom right of screen), e.g.

While this Icon is there, you are connected as if you were in the Institute.
Example use:
Connect to your home drive N:
Click Start -> Run and in the box provided, type \\homes.maths.ox.ac.uk\homes. You will be prompted for a username and password - Again, use the one you used to connect to the VPN server.
TIP: It is possible to avoid having to type in your username and password each time by creating a local account with the same username and password as your account in the Maths Institute.
Disconnecting:
Right click the icon in your system tray and left click "Disconnect"
