Adding/Removing printers under Windows
Adding printers
The departmental windows machines now provide a default set of printers which should include any printer in the room plus the nearest large mono and colour printers.
To add additional printers the quickest method is:
- From the Start menu select Run.
- In the box that appears type in \\print0 and press enter.
- This will connect to the print server opening a new window listing all the printers.
- Double click on the printer you wish to add.
- Now close the windows that opened and the new printer should appear within any lists in applications.
Adding IPP printers
You can access printers from outside the Mathematical Institute network (whether it be from home, or on the Eduroam or OWL networks).
Please note that if you reset your Maths Institute password, you will need to follow the steps in the "Changing your username and password" section below to reset the password stored for the printer on your computer.
- Choose your printer from the list of printer drivers. Click on the corresponding icon in the "Windows Drivers" column.
- Save the file (oxmaths-<printername>.exe) to your desktop.
- Double-click on the file to run it.

- In the dialogue box that talks about (for Windows XP) Windows Logo Testing, click "Continue Anyway".

In Windows 7, the dialogue box will instead be called "Unsigned driver warning". It should be safe to click "Yes".
- The printer will then install. If you're installing the printer
driver on a computer off the Maths network, you'll be prompted for your
Maths username and password. Under security options, select "Use the specified account" and enter your username and password. Click "OK".

For Windows 7, the dialogue box will not mention security options, but simply prompt you for your username and password. - Your printer should now be installed.
Changing your username and password
If you are using the IPP method, your printers may stop working if you change your Maths password. To reset the stored password for the printers:
- Open the Printers and Faxes dialogue from the Start menu.

- Right click on the printer for you wish to reset the password, and choose Properties.

In Windows 7, select the printer, and instead of right-clicking, click "Print server properties" along the menu bar.
- In the Properties dialogue box, select the "Ports" tab, highlight in turn each of lines matching "https://print.maths.ox.ac.uk..." and click "Configure Port...".

- Update your username and password to the correct values, and click "OK".
Removing Printers
- Click the Start button in the lower left hand corner of the screen and select "Printers and Faxes".
- A new window appears listing your current installed printers
- Click on the printer you wish to remove and press the DELETE key
