The Mathematical Institute invites applications for an experienced Finance Officer who will be a key member of a small finance team led by the Head of Administration and Finance (HAF) and comprising, in addition, the Research Grants Manager, the Deputy Finance Officer and 2 part-time Finance Assistants.  The is a new post and arises from an expansion of the previous role into two posts, the other being the Research Grants Manager who deals with post-award administration for the increasing research activity of the department.  This is a permanent position and is available for an immediate start.

The postholder will be responsible for all day to day financial management, ensuring that the department has robust financial processes and controls, accurate financial data and timely financial information and will assist the HAF in supporting the strategic agenda of the Institute.  The post holder will be expected to work closely with the HAF in the preparation of management accounts for the department and preparing the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.  The post holder will advise the HAF, Chairman, and all members of the Institute, as needed, on established financial policies and procedures and will contribute to the long-term financial planning and financial health of the department. 

The post holder will have strong accounting knowledge, evidenced by a CCAB qualification or progress to the final stages of qualification, strong numeracy skills, a good general level of education and at least 5 years experience of working as part of the finance function in the higher education, public or commercial sector, including implementation of financial processes and controls.
