Evan Nedyalkov - Mathematician Sketches

Sketches of Roger Penrose and Andrew Wiles

My art practice focuses mainly on life-drawing and portraiture. Over lockdown drawing from “life” has been on a screen only, which has completely changed how I (don’t) see and reproduce 3D, with my work becoming “flatter” and more illustrative, which I don’t always love. The two portraits included here are done from video (rather than still image) to try and get a better sense of shape and form through movement. Medium: oil pastel on paper.

Evan Nedyalkov is the Conferences and Events Manager at the Mathematical Institute.
