Free online event: Thursday September 30 - Friday October 1, 2021.

We are excited to announce and invite you to the 2021 LMS/IMA joint meeting. This event will include a number of mathematical lectures, as well as artistic exhibitions, all focused around the theme of Maths in Human Society. Our invited speakers will discuss a range of topics including pure and applied geometry, network science, and urban systems.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our teaching and learning team in the Department of Statistics at the University of Warwick this coming term. Our five teaching fellow positions are open to any BA, MMath, MSc or DPhil graduate with a 2:1 or better honours degree in mathematics or joint degrees who is interested in teaching university mathematics for a year.

Maths communicators are invited to apply for small grants to produce resource packs for maths communication activities. These will contain materials and instructions which will be published and promoted by the IMA for anyone to use in delivering maths communication activities.

Each grant will provide £400 to cover the development of a single activity pack, and three grants are available in this iteration of the scheme. Find out more.

The School of Mathematics, University of Bristol, is seeking to appoint one or more Lecturers in Applied Mathematics. A Lecturer holds an indefinite appointment roughly equivalent to an Assistant or Associate Professor in the USA. We seek an outstanding applied mathematician/theoretical physicist that supports or complements the research activities of the Institute for Applied Mathematics. Currently, the Institute has research activity in soft matter, theoretical biophysics, complex materials, dynamical systems and fluid dynamics.

Spectra is proud to announce that the first Spectra Conference will be hosted virtually by the Institute for Computation and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) on August 18th-20th, 2021.

Industrial mathematics has a rich history at Oxford, spawning Study Groups with Industry (now a worldwide phenomenon) in 1968 and the Mathematics in Industry Information Service (MIIS) in 2003, which was primarily a repository for reports from Industry Study Groups. In partnership with CUP, we have now launched Mathematics In Industry Reports, as the successor to MIIS.

The British Society for the History of Mathematics, the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences, the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the Isaac Newton Institute, the London Mathematical Society, and the Mathematical Association are holding a two day virtual conference (5 and 6 October) on Black Heroes of Mathematics.

In case you missed this, the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences (check them out) has released an 'updated' list of mathematical challenges. They say the list was drawn from a one-day symposium of physicists and mathematicians as well as the contributions of "leading researchers around the world." Not sure what Hilbert would have made of it.

We invite you to take part in research to investigate experts' views of mathematical proof. This study, from the Univerity of Edinburgh, is designed to better understand what characteristics expert mathematicians value when considering the relative merits of different mathematical proofs.
