Automorphisms of Quantum Toroidal Algebras and an Action of The Extended Double Affine Braid Group

Abstract

Quantum toroidal algebras $U_{q}(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{tor}})$ are certain Drinfeld quantum affinizations of quantum groups associated to affine Lie algebras, and can therefore be thought of as `double affine quantum groups'.

In particular, they contain (and are generated by) a horizontal and vertical copy of the affine quantum group. 

Utilising an extended double affine braid group action, Miki obtained in type $A$ an automorphism of $U_{q}(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{tor}})$ which exchanges these subalgebras. This has since played a crucial role in the investigation of its structure and representation theory.

In this talk I shall present my recent work -- which extends the braid group action to all types and generalises Miki's automorphism to the ADE case -- as well as potential directions for future work in this area.

Flops and Cluster Categories

Abstract

The crepant resolutions of a singular threefold are related by a finite sequence of birational maps called flops. In the simplest cases, this network of flops is governed by simple combinatorics. I will begin the talk with an overview of flops and crepant resolutions. I will then move on to explain how their underlying combinatorial structure can be abstracted to define the notion of a cluster category.

Localisation of locally analytic representations (work in progress).

Abstract

Let $G$ be a $p$-adic Lie group. From the perspective of $p$-adic manifolds, possibly the most natural $p$-adic representations of $G$ to consider are the locally analytic ones.  Motivated by work of Pan, when $G$ acts on a rigid analytic variety $X$ (e.g., the flag variety), we would like to geometrise locally analytic $G$-representations, via a covariant localisation theory which should intertwine Schneider-Teitelbaum's duality with the $p$-adic Beilinson-Bernstein localisation. I will report some partial progress in the simplified situation when we replace $G$ by its germ at $1$. The main ingredient is an infinite jet bundle $\mathcal{J}^\omega_X$ which is dual to $\widehat{\mathcal{D}}_X$. Our "co"localisation functor is given by a coinduction to $\mathcal{J}^\omega_X$. Work in progress.

The Pro-Étale Topology for Representation Theorists

Perverse sheaves are an indispensable tool in geometric representation theory that can be used to construct representations and compute composition multiplicities. These ‘sheaves’ live in a certain $\ell$-adic derived category. In this talk we will discuss a beautiful construction of this category based on the pro-étale topology and explore some applications in representation theory.

Continuous Linear Endomorphisms of Holomorphic Functions

Abstract

Let $X$ denote an open subset of $\mathbb{C}^d$, and $\mathcal{O}$ its sheaf of holomorphic functions. In the 1970’s, Ishimura studied the morphisms of sheaves $P\colon\mathcal{O}\to\mathcal{O}$ of $\mathbb{C}$-vector spaces which are continuous, that is the maps $P(U)\colon\mathcal{O}(U)\to\mathcal{O}(U)$ on the sections are continuous. In this talk, we explain his result, and explore its analogues in the non-Archimedean world.

Knutson's Conjecture on the Representation Ring

Abstract

Donald Knutson proposed the conjecture, later disproven and refined by Savitskii, that for every irreducible character of a finite group, there existed a virtual character such their tensor product was the regular character. In this talk, we disprove both this conjecture and its refinement. We then introduce the Knutson Index as a measure of the failure of Knutson's Conjecture and discuss its algebraic properties.

Realising The Smooth Representations of GL(2,Zp)

Abstract

The character table of GL(2,Fq), for a prime power q, was constructed over a century ago. Many of these characters were determined via the explicit construction of a corresponding representation, but purely character-theoretic techniques were first used to compute the so-called discrete series characters. It was not until the 1970s that Drinfeld was able to explicitly construct the corresponding discrete series representations via l-adic étale cohomology groups. This work was later generalised by Deligne and Lusztig to all finite groups of Lie type, giving rise to Deligne-Lusztig theory.

In a similar vein, we would like to construct the representations affording the (smooth) characters of compact groups like GL(2,Zp), where Zp is the ring of p-adic integers. Deligne-Lusztig theory suggests hunting for these representations inside certain cohomology groups. In this talk, I will consider one such approach using a non-archimedean analogue of de Rham cohomology.

On quivers, Auslander algebras and derived equivalences

Abstract

Auslander-Reiten theory provides lots of powerful tools to study algebras of finite representation type. One of these is Auslander correspondence, a well-known result establishing a bijection between the class of algebras of finite representation type and their corresponding Auslander algebras. I will present these classical results in a key example: the class of algebras associated to quivers of type A_n. I will talk about well-known results regarding their derived equivalence with another class of algebras, and I will present a more recent result regarding the perfect derived category of the Auslander algebras of type A_n.

Growth of Mod p Representations of p-adic Lie Groups

Abstract

The canonical dimension is a fundamental integer-valued invariant that is attached to mod p representations of p-adic Lie groups. I will explain why it is both an asymptotic measure of growth, and an algebraic quantity strongly related to Krull dimension. We will survey algebraic tools that can be applied in its calculation, and describe results spanning the last twenty years. I'll present a new theorem and suggest its possible significance for the mod p local Langlands programme.

Module categories for $\text{Tilt}(SL_{2k+1})$ from $\tilde{A}_{n-1}$-buildings

Abstract

We show that the category of vector bundles over the vertices of a locally finite $\tilde{A}_{n-1}$ building $\Delta$, $Vec(\Delta)$, has the structure of a $Tilt(SL_{2k+1})$ module category. This module category is the $q$-analogue of the $Tilt(SL_{2k+1})$ action on vector bundles over the $sl_n$ weight lattice.  Our construction of the $Tilt(SL_{2k+1})$ action on $Vec(\Delta)$ extends to $Vec(\Delta)^{G}$, its equivariantization, which gives us a class of non-standard $Tilt(SL_{2k+1})$ module categories. When $G$ acts simply transitively, this recovers the fiber functors of Jones.

Maximality properties of generalised Springer representations of $\text{SO}(N)$

Abstract

Waldspurger proved maximality and minimality results for certain generalised Springer representations of $\text{Sp}(2n,\mathbb{C})$. We will discuss analogous results for $G = \text{SO}(N,\mathbb{C})$ and sketch their proofs.

Let $C$ be a unipotent class of $G$ and $E$ an irreducible $G$-equivariant local system on $C$. Let $\rho$ be the generalised Springer representation corresponding to $(C,E)$. We call $C$ the support of $\rho$. It is well-known that $\rho$ appears in the top cohomology of a certain variety. Let $\bar\rho$ be the representation obtained by summing the cohomology groups of this variety.

We show that if $C$ is parametrised by an orthogonal partition consisting of only odd parts, then $\bar\rho$ has a unique irreducible subrepresentation $\rho^{\text{max}}$ whose support is maximal among the supports of the irreducible subrepresentations of $\rho^{\text{max}}$. We also show that $\text{sgn}\otimes\rho^{\text{max}}$ is the unique subrepresentation of $\text{sgn}\otimes\bar\rho$ with minimal support. We will also present an algorithm to compute $\rho^{\text{max}}$.

Smith–Treumann theory and the categorical conjecture

Abstract

In the early 2010s, Riche and Williamson proposed new character formulas for simple and indecomposable tilting modules over reductive algebraic groups $G$ in positive characteristic. Even better, they showed their formulas would follow from a conceptually satisfying "categorical conjecture", which they were able to prove for $G = GL_n$. Our first goal in this talk will be to explain the statement of the categorical conjecture, indicating its connection to representation theory and assuming minimal background knowledge. Subsequently, we will introduce Smith–Treumann theory and outline how it may be applied to prove the categorical conjecture in general. Time permitting, we will conclude with remarks on future directions of study.

Cyclic cohomology and generalized formal degrees for Affine Hecke algebras

Abstract

In this talk I will introduce affine Hecke algebras and discuss some of their representation theory, in particular their Fourier transform. We will consider discrete series representations and how their formal degrees can help us understand them. There is no quantity like the formal degree available to help us similarly study limits of discrete series representations. I will sketch how this difficulty might be overcome by using cyclic cohomology and its pairing with K-theory to introduce generalized formal degrees.

Branching of representations of symmetric groups and Hecke algebras

We will look at the branching of irreducible representations of symmetric groups from the perspective of Okounkov-Vershik, and then look at Hecke algebras, affine Hecke algebras and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, in particular how the graded Grothendieck groups of their module categories “are” irreducible highest weight modules for affine $sl_l$, where $l$ is the “quantum characteristic”, and the branching graph is a highest weight crystal (for affine $sl_l$). The Fock space realisation of the highest weight crystal will get us back to  the Young graph for in the case of the symmetric group that we considered at the beginning.

Representations of Galois groups

Abstract

We can learn a lot about an integral domain by studying the Galois group of its fraction field. These groups are generally quite complicated and hard to understand, but their representations, so-called Galois representations, contain more easily accessible information. These also play the lead in many important theorems and conjectures of modern maths, such as the Modularity theorem and the Langlands programme. In this talk we give a quick introduction to Galois representations, motivated by lots of examples aimed at a general algebraist audience, and talk about some open problems.

Once and Twice Categorified Algebra

I will explain in what sense the theory of finite tensor categories is a categorification of the theory of finite dimensional algebras. In particular, I will introduce finite module categories, review a key result of Ostrik, and present Morita theory for finite categories. I will give many examples to illustrate these ideas. Then, I will explain the elementary properties of finite braided tensor categories. If time permits, I will also mention my own work, which consists in categorifying these ideas once more!

An example of the Lyndon-Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence

Abstract

Spectral sequences are computational tools to find the (co-)homology of mathematical objects and are used across various fields. In this talk I will focus on the LHS spectral sequence, which we associate to an extension of groups to compute group cohomology. The first part of the talk will serve as introduction to both group cohomology and general spectral sequences, where I hope to provide and intuition and some reduced formalism. As main example, and core of this talk, we will look at the LHS spectral sequence associated to the group extension $(\mathbb{Z}/3\mathbb{Z})^3 \rightarrow S \rightarrow \mathbb{Z}/3\mathbb{Z}$, where $S$ is a Sylow-3-subgroup of $SL_2(\mathbb{Z}/9\mathbb{Z})$. In particular I will present arguments that all differentials on the $E^2$ page vanish.

Koszul Monoids in Quasi-abelian Categories

Abstract

In this talk I will discuss my extension of the Koszul duality theory of Beilinson, Ginzburg, and Soergel to the more general setting of quasi-abelian categories. In particular, I will define the notions of Koszul monoids, and quadratic monoids and their duals. Schneiders' embedding of a quasi-abelian category into an abelian category, its left heart, allows us to prove an equivalence of derived categories for certain categories of modules over Koszul monoids and their duals. The key examples of categories for which this theory works are the categories of complete bornological spaces and the categories of inductive limits of Banach spaces. These categories frequently appear in derived analytic geometry.

Iwahori-Hecke algebras and equivariant K-theory of the affine Flag variety

In this talk, I will talk about the category of coherent sheaves on the affine Flag variety of a simply-connected reductive group over $\mathbb{C}$. In particular, I'll explain how the convolution product naturally leads to a construction of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra, and present some combinatorics related to computing duals in this category.

Deriving the Deligne-Langlands correspondence

Affine Hecke algebras and their representations play an important role in the representation theory of p-adic groups since they classify smooth representations generated by Iwahori-fixed vectors. The Deligne-Langlands correspondence, which was proved by Kazhdan and Lusztig, parametrises these representations by geometric data on the Langlands dual group. This talk is supposed to be a gentle introduction to this topic. I will also briefly talk about how this correspondence can be lifted to the derived level.
