Athena SWAN

The Athena SWAN charter is a framework used to support and transform gender equality within higher education (HE) and research. Established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment, the Charter is now being used across the globe to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.

Our Athena SWAN work supports the department’s overarching aim of creating an outstanding working environment in which students and staff alike can achieve their full potential.

If you would like to contribute to future work in this area please contact the Head of Department, members of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee, or the Head of Faculty Services & HR.
