Aims of the course

The programme aims:

  • to provide graduates with a strong mathematical background and the capacity to apply their expertise to the solution of real finance problems.
  • to equip students with an understanding of the fundamentals of mathematical finance: mathematical models, techniques, numerical methods and data analysis, and enable them to source more advanced material relating to these topics.
  • to develop problem solving skills, from the formulation of problems from descriptions in financial language, through mathematical and/or statistical analysis and the design of appropriate numerical schemes and/or statistics algorithms, to the presentation and interpretation of results.
  • to lay the foundation for further research or for a career as a quantitative analyst into a financial or other institution
