The Abram Gannibal project, aiming to establish and nurture collaborations between African and UK-based mathematicians, recently held its project workshop at Chicheley Hall in Buckinghamshire, a beautiful 18th century mansion.

The meeting had strong Oxford representation: it was organised by Balazs Szendroi, while its speakers included Heather Harrington, Agnese Barbensi and Geoffrey Mboya, all members of the MI, as well as Oxford visitors Deborah Ajayi and Praise Adeyemo (Ibadan University, Nigeria) and David Ssevviiri (Makerere University, Uganda).

As well as technical contributions, there was a talk on improving African mathematics education at scale, as well as a round-table discussion on algebra, geometry and number theory in Africa. The project had a difficult journey to get to this stage, being hampered by the COVID pandemic, as well as delays and setbacks during the visa application process for our visitors; it was thus particularly pleasing that a successful workshop could in the end be held.
