You may have seen the launch on Monday of the University’s ‘Be energy friendly’ campaign to save energy and save the environment.

In response to soaring energy prices, the University has approved new energy-saving measures for departments to adopt during the winter months. These measures will reduce how much energy we use, and help us reduce our impact on the environment – in line with the University’s sustainability commitment to reach net zero carbon by 2035. This will go some way towards mitigating the financial impact of rising energy prices, so that we can continue to deliver our core mission of teaching and research.

In the Andrew Wiles Building, we will maintain a temperature of 19 °C (in line with World Health Organization and EU guidance), and have turned the heating on to run from 8am to 3pm on weekdays. We’ll review these arrangements as necessary when temperatures drop. Space heaters are not permitted in offices except as a reasonable adjustment on medical grounds and with the approval of the Director of IT and Physical Resources.

If you have any questions, please contact Jocasta (@email or Keith (@email).

Editor's note: I recommend thermal underwear.
