As we approach the 10th anniversary of the Andrew Wiles Building (AWB), the Art Committee and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee are commissioning a photography series to celebrate the wonderful people that study and work in the Mathematical Institute.

We are seeking portrait nominations to represent the rich diversity of the Mathematical Institute including different genders, ethnicities, sexualities, disabilities and socio-economic backgrounds. This call is open to all students, staff and faculty from the Mathematical Institute who have made the department what it is today.

  • You can nominate yourself, or someone you know, or a group or network, and you can make as many nominations as you like.
  • The nominee can be a current member, or someone who’s been here in the last 10 years (you don’t need to have asked the nominee, though we will of course check later that they are happy to be photographed).
  • The nomination might recognise someone for their efforts in helping create an inclusive environment, or to celebrate a particular contribution to the department that deserves recognition.
  • Nominees might be distinguished colleagues, great role models, or unsung heroes who make the institute a better place.

Those selected for the project will be asked to sit for their portrait during Trinity Term 2023. The series will form part of a permanent exhibition in the AWB and will also be displayed on our website.

If you would like your portrait taken or would like to nominate somebody, please complete this webform by Friday 24 February 2023.
