We welcome applications for a four-year D.Phil in Mathematics at the University of Oxford on the topic of Reliable and efficient sketching algorithms for randomized Principal Component Analysis. The work will be broadly in randomised linear algebra, developing algorithms, theory, implementation and applications. The research project will be supervised by Professor Yuji Nakatsukasa (Oxford University) and Dr Hussam Al Daas (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, STFC). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be hosted by both the Numerical Analysis group at the Mathematical Institute (Oxford University) and the Computational Mathematics Group (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, STFC).

 

The PhD studentship is open to all applicants, irrespective of nationality/residence, and the start date is 01 October 2023. The successful candidate will be based in the Mathematical Institute at the University of Oxford. The PhD position is fully-funded for four years, including a stipend and university fees.
