Kitten lying in a pile of books

It's the Week 5 Student Bulletin!

This week, we have a range of opportunities - whether you'd like to see the final piece in Conrad Shawcross's exhibition, attend a blockchain conference, learn more about Mathematics teaching, or apply for a PhD. We've also signposted some examination resources, in preparation for the beginning of undergraduate exams next week. Read on to find out more!

Taking a break from revision: a few ideas

As we've mentioned below, it's crucial for students to find time to relax and take care of themselves whilst revising. While it may feel impossible to leave your desk at the moment, below are a few things happening in Oxford this weekend which might serve as a nice break from studying - although this is far from a comprehensive list, and we hope that you have lots of ideas of your own!

If you'd like to take advantage of the sunshine, take a walk in University Parks or Christ Church Meadows. The Oxford Botanic Gardens also has free admission for students.

If being out in the sun isn't appealing, or if sunshine fails to appear, Oxford is full of centrally-located museums that are free to enter. They also run lots of exhibitions and events - the Ashmolean is currently running an exhibition on Labyrinth, the Natural History Museum is talking this evening about Reasons to Love Wasps, and the History of Science Museum is showing props and costumes from His Dark Materials

If you're studying in the Institute and would prefer not to go too far, take some time out for Tadashi Tokieda's lecture on 'A world from a sheet of paper', or listen to the Villers Quartet perform

Finally, we encourage you above all to get enough rest during the exams period. However, if you find yourself in a late-night study session then it can be very useful to know that G&Ds are open until 11pm.

The Mathematical Institute wishes you all the best of luck with exams! Please do reach out to us if you need guidance or support.
