Mfano Africa is a mentorship platform launched in August 2020 which helps pre-PhD mathematics students to improve the quality of their postgraduate applications through research experience and professional training workshops.  Following on from the programme’s success last year, Oxford Mathematics are fortunate to once again collaborate with Mfano Africa and its Founder and Director, Geoffrey Mboya, who completed his DPhil in Oxford earlier this year.

In 2023 we received over 140 applications from which a panel selected a small cohort of 14 promising pre-PhD students, all based in Sub-Saharan Africa. Over the next 8 weeks participants will be completing a mini-project with the support of an academic mentor, based on an area of interest in mathematics.
