The Mathematical Institute is seeking to appoint an approachable, motivated and conscientious individual to the permanent, full time post of Deputy Finance Officer (Studentships & Research Projects).

This role presents an exciting opportunity to gain experience of studentship and research grants administration in a world-leading academic department. You will be responsible for managing the department’s portfolio of funding for graduate studentships, and will support the financial management of our departmental Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs). Reporting to the Finance Officer (Research Projects & Studentships), you will work closely with a number of colleagues in the department, including the Finance Manager, Graduate Studies Administrator and the CDT Administrators.

The successful candidate will be educated to A-level standard or equivalent in at least one numerate subject, and have experience in studentships or research grants administration, ideally in relation to the management of awarded grants. They will have a good level of general financial literacy, excellent IT skills and the ability to prioritise a varied and busy workload to meet conflicting deadlines. We are seeking a team player with the ability to explain complex information to a wide-ranging audience, and a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality.
