The School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh invites applications for a PhD position in Probability Theory. Accepted candidates receive full funding and are not required to take on teaching responsibilities. However, students have the choice to engage in teaching (tutoring) if they wish to, and they will receive compensation for their efforts.

Deadline: There is no formal deadline, but students who wish to be considered for this round, it would be best to apply by the end of January.

Motivated and research oriented individuals who wish to work with Dr. Ofer Busani on the KPZ universality class should select him as a potential mentor.

About the KPZ Universality Class

The KPZ universality class encompasses a diverse range of models, including random growth interfaces, particle systems, random metrics, random tilings, random depositions, and stochastic partial differential equations. The study of KPZ models is at the forefront of mathematical research, connecting various fields such as probability theory, random matrices, representation theory, and combinatorics.

Research Focus

Working closely with Dr. Ofer Busani, the selected PhD student will be actively involved in tackling some of the most exciting problems within the field, revolving around the KPZ universality conjecture.

Application Process

To apply, please use the link provided below. It is important to note that although the position description may seem to emphasize applied mathematics, students with an interest in non-applied probability theory are strongly encouraged to apply as well.
