Sam Cohen and Ian Griffiths have been working with David Levy (of Asylum Welcome and the Reuters Institute) to run the Mathematical Sciences for Refugees and Asylum and Sanctuary Seekers meetings for the last two years. In these meetings we have provided a chance for sanctuary seekers and refugees to connect with other mathematicians in an online format. We have covered a wide range of topics such as how to apply for jobs, write academic articles and give presentations, as well as discussing specific mathematical topics.
In February 2024 we are planning our first in-person meeting here in Oxford. We are now looking for others to join in our initiative. This could be by joining to give a talk in a session or being involved in some of the organisation. You can find out more about our initiative here.
