Latymer Upper is an independent, selective, coeducational secondary school in the heart of West London. Of the 1200 pupils at the school, around 20% are here on substantial means-tested bursaries, and the school’s aim is to increase this proportion over the coming years. The Mathematics Department is the biggest in the school and each year we have around 120 girls and boys opting to study the subject at A Level, including around 40 who also choose further maths. The teaching here is exciting and challenging for all the right reasons: bright pupils who are genuinely interested in the subject and are keen to excel at it. Problem-solving is at the heart of what we do at all stages, and the school is successful in preparing students for the various UKMT maths challenges and Olympiads and also for university entry in maths and related disciplines.

We are hoping to appoint a Mathematics Teaching Apprentice for June 2024. Further details of the post and of the school can be found here: https://latymer.ciphr-irecruit.com/templates/CIPHR/jobdetail_4612.aspx.

Being a large department with a range of experience, we are able to offer a great deal of support to those new to the profession (not least those who don’t hold a teaching qualification) through a reduced timetable, regular meetings, mutual observation and relevant professional development opportunities. The role leads to Qualified Teacher Status and comes with a salary of £35000. The Head of Mathematics, Paddy MacMahon, would be more than happy to chat informally with any students who might be interested either in applying for the role or in finding out more about it – Paddy can be contacted via the email address @email in the first instance.
