"With this new professorship, we aim to extend our research and teaching in one area of mathematics for high-dimensional problems with connections to mathematical modeling, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or other areas relevant in natural sciences. The research may focus on improving accuracies in modeling and prediction tasks, or enhancing the scalability of the techniques for interdisciplinary applications to complement existing expertise at our department and faculty."

Talking Maths in Public is a conference for people who work in or otherwise participate in communicating mathematics to the public. There will be two days of workshops, talks and more, and is available to attend in person or online.

The conference runs in the UK every two years. The event is independently organised, and funded by ticket sales and grants from mathematical institutions. Our events in 2017, 2019 and 2021 (online) all fully sold out and were highly rated by attendees.

A call for applications for the 2023 Emmy Noether Fellowships is now open.

The Emmy Noether Fellowship provides grants of between £2,000 and £10,000 to mathematicians with current or recent caring responsibilities, including maternity leave. The deadline for applications is 28th May.

The LMS will be running two workshops on mathematics communication: a Beginners session and an Advanced session. Mathematicians and maths communicators Ben Sparks and Katie Steckles will lead these interactive training sessions, covering the skills and techniques required to communicate maths effectively. They will also share their expertise in delivering interactive and engaging sessions.

This year, the Society is encouraging nominations of joint collaborations, groups or teams for almost all its medals to better represent how contemporary science is undertaken. In addition, the Society is extremely keen to broaden the diversity of those nominated for its awards, so do please consider all contacts and colleagues.

You do not have to be a Fellow of the Royal Society to nominate or be nominated for any of the Royal Society medals and awards.

Nominations close on Friday 24 February 2023 at 3pm GMT.
