Involvement in the life of the department

Many graduate students contribute significantly to the life of the department beyond their immediate research and teaching activities.

We strongly encourage you, as a graduate student, to get involved in some of the activities listed below, as this will help you to develop skills and to build experiences which will be useful to you in your future career (whether within or beyond academia).  Your involvement will also help the department to thrive, and to be a welcoming place for other students!

You will be invited to report once a year, on an electronic survey form, on what contributing activities you have carried out during the year.  Supervisors will then be able to use this information when writing references. Towards the end of each year we plan to make some awards for contribution to the department - further details to be announced.

What can you do?

Here are examples of activities you can become involved in.
