About the role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-organised administrator to join us in the new role of Senior Research Group Assistant on a permanent, full-time basis. Although this post is based at the Mathematical Institute, the department will consider applications to work remotely during part of your week.

This role offers the exciting prospect of combining PA / EA and administrator skills with line management for an excellent career development opportunity. You will lead a team of experienced Research Group Assistants to provide our Research Groups with PA and administrative support, while also directly supporting some groups yourself. For the groups you are responsible for, you will support the Head and other members of the research group, including academics, research staff and students. You will also support the team of Research Group Assistants with particularly complex queries escalated to you from other groups. You can find out more about our areas of research here; https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/research.

Working closely with the Head of Faculty Services and HR, you will support and strengthen the existing team, building up a network to share best practice and expertise across the department.

About you

We are looking for candidates who have a proven ability to develop good working relationships with a wide variety of people, alongside first-rate organisation and prioritisation skills. You will have experience of diary management, including making complex travel arrangements, and a good understanding of general administrative practices and procedures.

You will be able to work independently to manage demanding and varied workload, prioritising your time and work effectively. You will have the ability to draft correspondence minutes and reports; excellent IT skills; and experience of financial administration.

We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our strategic aim to improve staff equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications from BAME candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type within the department.

What We Offer

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

•             An excellent contributory pension scheme

•             38 days annual leave

•             A comprehensive range of childcare services

•             Family leave schemes

•             Cycle loan scheme

•             Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans

•             Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs

This role also offers the opportunity for hybrid working, and the team are open to discussing a working pattern that works for you.
