Oxford Mathematics is delighted to be a partner in the Martingale Postgraduate Foundation's programme of scholarships for students wishing to pursue postgraduate studies in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects.
Martingale is a postgraduate foundation that offers full funding and multi-year support for outstanding UK students to complete STEM PhDs and MSc courses at leading UK research universities. Mathematics at Oxford is a core component of Martingale.
The mathematician Oswald Veblen (1880–1960) is not widely remembered today, except perhaps by those who study geometrical or topological topics that relate to his work. In his day, however, Veblen was a major figure in American mathematics.
Oxford Mathematician Graeme Segal has been awarded the Chern Medal in recognition of an outstanding lifelong achievement at the highest level in the field of mathematics. The medal is named in honour of the Chinese-born American mathematician Shiing-Shen Chern and was presented today at the International Congress of Mathematics (ICM) in Philadelphia, USA.
Mathematicians seek truth, beauty and elegance, in mathematics itself and in our work with researchers studying fundamental questions in a host of other disciplines. We pursue excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and the communication of mathematics.
The education of the mathematicians of the future is at the heart of our mission. Our wide range of courses at undergraduate and graduate level offers an outstanding training in maths and its links to other disciplines.
