The Bannister Community Mile is a new event taking place in Oxford exactly 70 years since Sir Roger Bannister ran the world's first ever four minute mile around the Iffley Road track in Oxford. It is organised by Oxford University’s cross country and athletics clubs.

They are encouraging departments and colleges to enter as groups, with departmental and college prizes up for grabs for the biggest attendance relative to size. A Mathematics group has already been created and you can join it as well as joining as an individual or part of a family. The password for the group is MetricMiles15.

The community mile is a mass event, open to all abilities and ages from six and above. The course will start on St Aldate’s and proceed down the High Street, crossing Magdalen Bridge before finishing on Iffley Road, where finisher medals will be presented.
