Tony Hill
Tony went to Brasenose College in 1968 to read mathematics.
What do you do now?
I retired 10 years ago. I'm currently completing a part-time (second) PhD, this time in pure mathematics, at King's College London.
When you were a student, did you imagine you'd find yourself doing what you do now?
I always wanted to be a teacher, but early on in my career discovered a new passion - software.
What success in your life are you most proud of?
I floated a software company, Micro Focus, on the main London Stock Exchange in 2005.
What advice would you give your student self?
I did do a PhD, in applied maths, at another university in my twenties but I wish I had stayed on at Oxford.
What do you hope you'll be doing in ten years' time?
More walking and more mathematics!
What do you like/miss/remember most about Oxford Mathematics?
It was fantastic to meet so many great mathematicians - both lecturers and students
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I’m a long distance (ultra) runner and walker. In 2014 I became a Centurion - meaning that I walked (no running!) 100 miles in less than 24 hours.
