Equality, diversity and inclusion

The Mathematical Institute is committed to creating an environment where excellence in research, teaching, and learning can thrive. We recognise that mathematical insight emerges from bringing together different perspectives and approaches.

Our aim is to ensure every member of our community students, researchers, and staff has the support they need to achieve their full potential.

This commitment is embedded in our Good Practice Statement and championed by our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Working closely with the Department Committee, which oversees all departmental operations, we ensure these principles inform every aspect of our work.

"Mathematical innovation requires great minds and new ideas, and the best progress comes from combining a diversity of people, cultures and experience.

"The Mathematical Institute is a place to share ideas, to inspire each other, and to be inspired. It is a place where everyone should be valued and supported."

Professor Ian Hewitt
Chair Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee

We are committed to promoting gender equality in mathematics through our participation in initiatives like Athena SWAN and our close collaboration with the London Mathematical Society.
