5 Positions in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (3 posts)

We invite applications for up to three Postdoctoral Research Associates in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics to work with Professor Christopher Beem. These positions are full-time, fixed term for three years, and the post-holders will be based at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford.

The successful candidates will join a research group investigating the nonperturbative algebraic structure of supersymmetric and superconformal quantum field theories as a member of the Mathematical Physics group at the Mathematical Institute. They will be responsible for carrying out research as a part of the ERC-funded project “Algebraic Foundations of Supersymmetric Quantum Field Theory” and/or the Simons-Foundation-funded “Simons Collaboration on the Nonperturbative Bootstrap”. They will contribute ideas for new research projects, write up their results for publication and represent the research group at meetings, whilst also managing their own research and administrative activities. They may also be called upon to assist in organizing meetings or conferences related to the research.

Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in theoretical or mathematical physics, or an appropriate adjacent field. They will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes, and have prior experience contributing to academic publications and presenting original research in seminars or at workshops or conferences. Preference will be given to applicants who are familiar with, or have expertise in, supersymmetric/superconformal field theories and related areas as detailed in the job description.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (2 posts)

We invite applications for two Postdoctoral Research Associates in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics, funded by the ERC and Simons Foundation, to work with Professor Sakura Schafer-Nameki at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. Both positions are fixed-term for three years and available for an immediate start.

The successful candidates will be part of the Mathematical Physics research group exploring different aspects of conformal field theories, supersymmetric gauge theories and dualities and their geometric realization. They will manage their own academic research and administrative activities, contribute ideas for new research projects, collaborate in the preparation of research publications and present papers at conferences.

Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in theoretical or mathematical physics, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes alongside the ability to manage their own academic research and associated activities.
