Oxford Maths Ambassadors

Why should I join?

Being an Oxford Maths Ambassador is a fun and rewarding experience.

You will:

  • Develop skills: public speaking, interpersonal, problem solving and time management.
  • Make friends: meet a group of others who are enthusiastic about sharing their love of maths (sometimes with cake provided)
  • Earn extra income: some events are paid
  • Recognition: subject to a minimum level of involvement, you will receive a certificate at the end of the year at our Outreach Celebration
  • Encouraging a love of maths!

In addition you will receive a FREE Oxford Maths T-shirt at the first event you volunteer for. We also cover any expenses you might incur in travelling to Oxford out of term time.

What do they do?

Ambassadors do a wide range of activities. At events we host in the department, they might

  • help set up
  • register arrivals
  • chat to attendees
  • lead groups to colleges
  • give short talks about what it's like to be a student at Oxford

If you choose to, you can also develop content for a workshop or talk to deliver to school students. More training to help you do this is given later in the academic year. For more information see the pdf at the bottom of this page.

How do I join?

To join, simply fill out the application form. You will also need to complete some online training before you can start volunteering. Details will be circulated once you are signed up.

You will then receive regular updates of the opportunities available, and can sign up to volunteer!

Many of the opportunities are paid - if you sign up for any of these, you will need to allow us to check your right to work.
