To students who are considering applying to do a PhD at Oxford beginning in October 2025,

After a number of students expressed interest in this, we are providing a Q+A session aimed at people who are thinking of applying to do a DPhil (PhD) at Oxford in either the Geometry, Topology, or Mathematical Physics groups. It will be led by Professor Dominic Joyce (Geometry), Marc Lackenby (Topology), and Sakura Schafer-Nameki (Mathematical Physics). It will happen on Wednesday 7th week, 27th November, 4pm - 5pm, in lecture room L3, Mathematical Institute. All are welcome, although we don’t expect to answer subject-specific questions outside our areas.

The deadline for applying to do a DPhil and to be considered for funding is 8 January 2025, so if you intend to apply, you should be thinking about it now.

Subjects we could discuss include choice of supervisor and subject area, what we expect on a DPhil application form, how the DPhil application process works, how funding for DPhils work, how long a DPhil takes, expectations on teaching by DPhil students, and so on.
