We're looking for mentors and projects for online research projects with Africa. This scheme matches mentors with Master’s-level students in sub-Saharan Africa who are not currently enrolled in a PhD programme; through a combination of research experience and skills training, the scheme aims to empower students to make competitive graduate applications in Africa and elsewhere.
The 2025 programme will take place for 8 weeks from 14 July – 5 September 2025 (with project presentations taking place online on 8 and 9 September). Mentors are expected to meet weekly with their mentees, though we appreciate there may be the occasional week over the summer where this is not possible. We hope to be able to offer an honorarium of £300 to mentors (subject to securing funding).
Project proposals (consisting of a description of the project, around 250 words) should be sent to @email by noon on Friday 28 March 2025. An idea of the projects that ran in 2024 can be viewed on the MIORPA webpage here. Projects in Machine Learning and Data Science are especially welcome because of high student interest in such projects in recent years.
