The University of Birmingham are accepting applications for two 1-year postgraduate masters courses in Nuclear Education. These courses receive excellent funding for Home students and partial scholarships can potentially be available for international students (see below).
MSc Physics & Technology of Nuclear Reactors
Focused on the more technical aspects, nuclear engineering, reactor physics and quite broad coverage across nuclear power technology - including fusion - and we have even had a number of graduates go on to careers in radiotherapy using nuclear/radiation techniques to treat cancer.
MSc Nuclear Decommissioning & Waste Management
NDAWM is focused much more on the final part of the fuel cycle, which includes site clean-up, decommissioning, waste treatment and storage, as well as more focus on managing nuclear projects.
Applications are still being accepted for the next academic year, commencing September 2025 and also some funding is still available to pay towards tuition fees for both home and international students:
- Typically, home students with a good 2.2 to a 1st degree from undergraduate would qualify for coverage of their fees between about 50% to 100% (depending on final degree result). Although strictly those amounts are determined at, and by, a brief interview. In addition, there is a government postgraduate loan scheme that allows Home students to support living expenses which should be looked into on an individual basis.
- For international students, there are scholarships such as the 125th Anniversary Scholarships for International Students which offer £5,000 fee scholarship towards tuition fees. Check website for eligibility.
