We get a lot of questions from students sitting exams in Trinity Term, so we've compiled a list of some of the most common queries we receive.

What time is my exam and where is it?

  • This is in your personal exam timetable, found in the Examinations and Assessments tab of Student Self Service. If you have any exam adjustments, your personal timetable might look a little different - you might be sitting an exam in a different location to your peers, or have additional time.

What do I wear and what do I bring to my exams?

Where do I write my answers?

  • You will be provided with booklets in which to write your solutions.
  • Use new booklets for each new question, and clearly label each booklet with the question number it is associated with. For example, you might choose to tackle Question 1 and then Question 3. Question 1 might take you one and a half booklets to complete, so you should label both booklets ‘Question 1’. You should begin a third booklet for Question 3. It might take you almost all of two booklets, so you should label both of these with ‘Question 3’. You have four booklets in total, two each labelled ‘Question 1’ and ‘Question 3’.
  • You should then use the treasury tag provided on your desk to fasten the booklets together. DO NOT knot the string of the treasury tags.

What do I write on the front of my booklets?

  • There should be clearly marked boxes on the front of each booklet explaining what you should write.
  • Complete the front page on EVERY booklet, not just the top one!
  • Make sure you DO NOT write your name or student number!
  • YOU MUST write your candidate number!
  • Students often mix up their student number and candidate number. Your candidate number can be found in the Examinations and Assessment tab of Student Self Service. Write this on a printed copy of your exam timetable if you are worried about forgetting it.
  • Typically, candidate numbers begin 10 or 11 and are 7 digits long. Student numbers are also 7 digits long but begin 15 or higher.
  • Your student number is on your University card - DO NOT write this one down!

We wish you all the best for your upcoming exams - if you have any questions, reach out to your college or departmental course administrator.
