About the Role
We are seeking an EDI Officer to play a key role in turning the Mathematical Institute’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategy into meaningful and measurable change. You will support a range of initiatives designed to foster a welcoming, respectful and supportive environment for our staff and students, with a particular focus on implementing, monitoring and evaluating our Athena Swan Action Plan.
Working closely with the Associate Head of Department for People, the EDI Committee and colleagues across the department, you will provide specialist EDI advice and guidance, lead and support EDI projects, and use quantitative and qualitative data to assess progress and recommend practical actions. You will also share good practice with EDI colleagues across the wider University.
The post is part-time (60% FTE) and based in the Andrew Wiles Building in Oxford. This is primarily an on-site role, although remote working may be possible.
About You
You will have substantial relevant experience of developing, implementing or evaluating initiatives relating to EDI, organisational culture, staff experience or people-focused institutional change, together with a strong understanding of equality and diversity issues. You will be organised, proactive and confident working independently, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills and the ability to approach sensitive or complex issues with judgement and tact.
You will also have experience of analysing quantitative and/or qualitative data and translating findings into clear recommendations for different audiences. Experience of working in higher education and with the Athena Swan accreditation process would be an advantage but is not essential.

What We Offer
As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days annual leave (pro rata)
  • A comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Family leave schemes
  • Cycle loan scheme
  • Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans

The University also runs an enormous number of social groups and sports clubs for those looking for more than just a great place to work.
We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award.
