Right to Work

Counsellor applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Before starting work, British and Irish nationals will need to show a valid passport; counsellors who are EU/EEA citizens will need to show that they have Pre-Settled or Settled status, Indefinite Leave to Remain, or an appropriate UK visa to evidence they have the right to work in the UK. Note that the position of counsellor is not sponsorable, which means that the University would not be able to obtain a visa for candidates for this position; therefore if candidates cannot demonstrate that they have the right to work or will be able to obtain this themselves, before commencing employment, then the Universty will not be able to employ them. Before completing an application, you should check to make sure that you have or will be able to obtain the appropriate right to work.

Please confirm:
Please explain how you meet the requirements for the right to work in the UK.
If you do NOT yet have the right to work in the UK, please explain how you expect to obtain it.
Criminal Convictions
We need to ask if you have any criminal convictions. We will not necessarily discount an applicant because of an unspent criminal conviction; the nature of the conviction and its relevance to the post will be considered.
Do you have any unspent criminal convictions, bind-overs, cautions, warnings or reprimands?
Are there any criminal proceedings currently pending against you?

If you have answered YES to either question, please supply the following details either in a sealed envelope marked 'strictly confidential'; or by email marked 'strictly confidential'; to the PROMYS Europe Administrator: nature of offence(s), date of conviction(s), penalty. This information will be held on a strictly confidential basis, in compliance with the GDPR and related UK data protection legislation, and only discussed with the selection panel where it is relevant to the post for which you have applied.

Recommendations

Please ask two individuals who are familiar with your mathematical background to complete the PROMYS Europe referee recommendation form.

Please be aware that you are responsible for requesting the recommendations yourself and should communicate directly with your referees about this. PROMYS Europe staff will NOT be sending a recommendation request to your referees.

Recommendations must be submitted by the application deadline: Monday 3 February 2025

Recommender 1
Please give their official university email address.
Recommender 2

Please answer the questions below in the space provided. In drafting your responses, you should keep in mind all the selection criteria set out in the job description, as your application will be assessed against these. It is helpful if you can give specific information, for example, about relevant experience or qualifications.

Please answer the questions fully - the boxes will grow as you enter more information.

Please tell us about your mathematical interests. Why would you like to be a PROMYS Europe counsellor? What do you understand of the aims of PROMYS Europe? How do you see yourself contributing to them?
What mathematical activities have you engaged in beyond the requirements of your school and university courses?
Please tell us about the courses you have taken in university-level mathematics. We are particularly interested in your background in Number Theory and Abstract Algebra.
Please tell us about any experience you have of working with young people. Why do you want to work with young people?
Please tell us about something (maths or non-maths) you have achieved during the last year of which you are particularly proud.
We will review your application against the selection criteria. Is there anything else you would like to add, whether from your university experience or other extra-curricular activities, to show how you meet the selection criteria?
Upload Files
Please upload your curriculum vitae here. To upload, please 'Choose File' then click 'Upload'.
Upload requirements
Please upload your transcript here. Unofficial copies are acceptable. To upload, please 'Choose File' then click 'Upload'.
Upload requirements

If you are a first-year undergraduate who has not yet received a transcript, please upload a list of the courses you have taken and any grades/scores received.

We are not able to process transcripts which are labelled 'Secure'. If your transcript is in this encrypted format, please send us a scan or screen shot as a PDF. Thank you.

For example: from a mailing; from a tutor; from the University of Oxford or another university website; from a maths Olympiad/contest; from a PROMYS alumnus; etc. Please be specific. This helps us with planning how to promote the programme in future and will not form part of your application.
