Congratulations to Paul Balister, Martin Bridson, Ben Green and James Maynard who have won Frontiers of Science awards 2026. The awards will be presented at the International Congress of Basic Science in Beijing, China in August.

Congratulations to the following graduate students:

Jad Hamdan - for his contributions to the Random Matrix Theory group through supporting and welcoming visitors, organising social events, and helping foster a collegial and inclusive group culture. He has also been a dependable source of support for junior members and an active contributor to seminars, group dinners, and wider group life.

Carles has won the 2025 Reinhart Heinrich award for PhD thesis, awarded by the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB), for his thesis 'Interactions and dynamics in collective cell behaviour'.

Kit, who has recently finished his DPhil in Mathematical Biology here in Oxford Mathematics and is now at Harvard Medical School, received the award for his work while in Oxford. As a fellow he will apply mathematical modelling to liquid biopsies – simple blood tests that detect tiny fragments of DNA released by cancer cells.

Patrick and Heather have been made Fellows of Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).

Patrick is made fellow for his contributions to algorithms and software for the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Heather is recognised for her outstanding contributions to the development of new topological and algebraic methods and their applications to mathematical biology.
