The London Mathematical Society (LMS) Emmy Noether Fellowships and Grace Chisholm Young Fellowship are now open for applications. The Emmy Noether Fellowships offer grants of between £2,000 and £10,000 per applicant to enhance the mathematical sciences research of holders either re-establishing their research programme after returning from a major break associated with caring responsibilities or requiring support to maintain their research programme while dealing with significant ongoing caring responsibilities.

A bit left field, but Nature is currently exploring a feature story about research projects that appeared to be stalled or heading toward failure until a new team member joined the effort — a crucial contributor who brought the perspective, skills, or ideas that changed the project’s trajectory.

The Knowledge Exchange Hub for the Mathematical Sciences has commissioned the award winning Active Bystander Training Company to deliver a focused, practical session designed to empower our community to challenge unacceptable behaviours — including those that may have become normalised over time.

Last year BBC Breakfast launched a puzzle advent calendar in collaboration with GCHQ. It was a huge hit and so they want to follow it up a bi-weekly challenge (probably Monday and Friday) in the Spring, set by a panel of experts/quizzers. They are "are hoping to recruit around a dozen of the best minds in the country to help set these challenges", in this case female minds for gender balance.

The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) runs a range of events including  conferences on topics ranging from cryptography to mathematics anxiety.

Check them out.
