This year, the MI is trialling a new undergraduate Directed Reading Programme (DRP). The DRP will allow Part A & Part B students guided access to scholarship outside the taught curriculum, with Postdoctoral Fellows and DPhil students acting as mentors.

After the success of "Fermat’s Last Tango - the musical" a few years ago, we (Mario and Radek) are currently in the process of writing a new maths musical: Galois Last Duel and we would love you to be involved! 

Disability History Month is marked from 20th November to 20th December, which gives us an opportunity to raise awareness of disability and support available in the University. 

As the winter vacation approaches, many of you will be looking forward to a well-deserved break to rest and recharge. But for some, the winter vacation and the Christmas period can bring mixed feelings, whether or not you celebrate the holiday.

As the end of term is here, we would like to request your feedback on the lectures and classes you have attended this term. This is a chance to give us detailed feedback on what has worked well, what could be improved, and what your experience has been like.

The Lead Librarian for Physical and Applied Sciences is running a Research Skills session for Part C, OMMS, MMSC, MTP and MCF students on Monday 1st December at 13:15-14:00 in L3.

This session will provide an overview of key strategies for finding and managing scientific papers for your dissertation

Student Focus, in association with The Times newspaper, is the nationwide student research programme on graduate recruitment. They're looking for final year students from an undergraduate or intergrated Masters degree at the University of Oxford who are researching their career options and applying for graduate jobs to provide feedback on their experience. Feedback will be completed in the form of questionnaires. 

As we're approaching the winter vacation, we wanted to highlight the welfare resources available to all students. All student welfare services remain open throughout the vacations (except the Christmas closure period), with some adjusted opening hours listed on each service's page. 

Next week's Fridays@11 session marks the final session for Michaelmas, and focuses on Effective Time Management.  

How can you balance revising with completing problem sheets? What tools and strategies can you use to plan your workload and set priorities? How much work should you be doing during the Christmas break? 

Come along to L1 on Friday at 11am, and bring any questions you have about how to manage your time most effectively. Hoping to see you there!
