The homotopy type of algebraic cobordism categories

Fabian Hebestreit
(Bonn)
Abstract

In this talk I want to outline the proofs our of main results, i.e. the localisation theorem and the identification of the homotopy type of Grothendieck-Witt theory in terms of K- and L-theory.
Finally, as a small application I want to present a refinement and extension of certain maps relating certain Madsen-Tillmann spectra and orthogonal/symplectic algebraic K-theory spectra of the integers.

All original material is joint work with B.Calmès, E.Dotto, Y.Harpaz, M.Land, K.Moi, D.Nardin, T.Nikolaus and W.Steimle.

Poincaré categories and L-theory

Fabian Hebestreit
(Bonn)
Abstract

I will start by briefly reviewing the Tate construction and in particular, the Tate diagonal. Using these I will then illustrate Lurie’s notion of Poincaré categories by considering Poincaré structures on module categories over a ring (spectrum) in detail. In particular, I will describe the somewhat subtle genuine Poincaré structure on the category of perfect complexes of an ordinary ring, which conjecturally links the classical notion of the Grothendieck-Witt spectrum to our derived version. Finally, I will compute its associated L-groups.

D-brane masses and the motivic Hodge conjecture

Albrecht Klemm
(Bonn)
Abstract

We consider the one parameter mirror families W of the Calabi-Yau 3-folds with Picard-Fuchs  equations of hypergeometric type. By mirror symmetry the  even D-brane masses of orginial Calabi-Yau manifolds M can be identified with four periods with respect to an integral symplectic basis of $H_3(W,\mathbb{Z})$ at the point of maximal unipotent monodromy. We establish that the masses of the D4 and D2 branes at the conifold are given by the two algebraically independent values of the L-function of the weight four holomorphic Hecke eigenform with eigenvalue one of $\Gamma_0(N)$. For the quintic in  $\mathbb{P}^4$ it this Hecke eigenform of $\Gamma_0(25)$ was as found by Chad Schoen.  It was discovered  by de la Ossa, Candelas and Villegas that  its  coefficients $a_p$ count the number of  solutions of  the mirror quinitic at the conifold over the finite number field $\mathbb{F}_p$ . Using the theory of periods and quasi-periods of $\Gamma_0(N)$ and the special geometry pairing on Calabi-Yau 3 folds we can fix further values in the connection matrix between the maximal unipotent monodromy point and the conifold point.

Martingale optimal transport - discrete to continous

Martin Huessman
(Bonn)
Abstract

In classical optimal transport, the contributions of Benamou–Brenier and
Mc-Cann regarding the time-dependent version of the problem are
cornerstones of the field and form the basis for a variety of
applications in other mathematical areas.

Based on a weak length relaxation we suggest a Benamou-Brenier type
formulation of martingale optimal transport. We give an explicit
probabilistic representation of the optimizer for a specific cost
function leading to a continuous Markov-martingale M with several
notable properties: In a specific sense it mimics the movement of a
Brownian particle as closely as possible subject to the marginal
conditions a time 0 and 1. Similar to McCann’s
displacement-interpolation, M provides a time-consistent interpolation
between $\mu$ and $\nu$. For particular choices of the initial and
terminal law, M recovers archetypical martingales such as Brownian
motion, geometric Brownian motion, and the Bass martingale. Furthermore,
it yields a new approach to Kellerer’s theorem.

Random 3-manifolds and towers of their covers

Ursula Hamenstaedt
(Bonn)
Abstract

Any closed 3-manifold can be obtained by glueing two handle bodies along their boundary. For a fixed such glueing, any other differs by changing the glueing map by an element in the mapping class group. Beginning with an idea of Dunfield and Thurston, we can use a random walk on the mapping class group to construct random 3-manifolds. I will report on recent work on the structure of such manifolds, in particular in view of tower of coverings and their topological growth: Torsion homology growth, the minimal degree of a cover with positive Betti number, expander families. I will in particularly explain the connection to some open questions about the mapping class group.

Asymptotic behaviour for equidispersive solutions of the Boltzmann equation

Alessia Nota
(Bonn)
Abstract

In this talk we consider particular solutions of the Boltzmann equation which have the form $f (x,v,t) = g (v − M (t)x,t)$ where $M (t) = A(I + tA)^{−1}$ with the matrix $A$ describing a shear flow or a dilatation or a combination of both. These solutions are known as equidispersive solutions. We will show that, for different choices for the matrix A and for different homogeneities of the collision kernel, we obtain different long time asymptotics for the corresponding equidispersive solutions. In particular we will focus on the case of simple shear flow and prove rigorously the existence of self-similar solutions with exponentially increasing internal energy.

Calabi-Yau Moduli Spaces from 2D Gauge Theories

Hans Jockers
(Bonn)
Abstract

In this talk I will introduce methods to use 2d gauge theories as a means to describe Calabi-Yau varieties and their moduli spaces. As I review, this description furnishes a natural framework to predict derived equivalences between pairs of (sometimes even non-birational) Calabi-Yau varieties. A prominent example of this kind is realized by the Rødland non-birational pair of Calabi-Yau threefolds.
Using the 2d gauge theory description, I will propose further examples of derived equivalences among non-birational Calabi-Yau varieties.

The number theory of superstring scattering amplitudes

Federico Zerbini
(Bonn)
Abstract

The Feynman diagram expansion of scattering amplitudes in perturbative superstring theory can be written (for closed strings) as a series of integrals over compactified moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces with marked points, indexed by the genus. Therefore in genus 0 it is reasonable to find, as it often happens in QFT computations, periods of M_{0,N}, which are known to be multiple zeta values. In this talk I want to report on recent advances in the genus 1 amplitude, which are related to the development of 2 different generalizations of classical multiple zeta values, namely elliptic multiple zeta values and conical sums.

The K3 category of a cubic fourfold

Daniel Huybrechts
(Bonn)
Abstract

Smooth cubic fourfolds are linked to K3 surfaces via their Hodge structures, due to work of Hassett, and via Kuznetsov's K3 category A. The relation between these two viewpoints has recently been elucidated by Addington and Thomas.
We study both of these aspects further and extend them to twisted K3 surfaces, which in particular allows us to determine the group of autoequivalences of A for the general cubic fourfold. Furthermore, we prove finiteness results for cubics with equivalent K3 categories and study periods of cubics in terms of generalized K3 surfaces.

Cobordisms between tangles

Akram Alishahi
(Bonn)
Abstract

In a previous work, we introduced a refinement of Juhasz’s sutured Floer homology, and constructed a minus theory for sutured manifolds, called sutured Floer chain complex. In this talk, we introduce a new description of sutured manifolds as “tangles” and describe a notion of cobordism between them. Using this construction, we define a cobordism map between the corresponding sutured Floer chain complexes. We also discuss some possible applications. This is a joint work with Eaman Eftekhary.
