Networking Lunch [New for 2026/27]
During term time, our department is very busy with lectures, classes, and seminars. We welcome recruitment events during the evenings and weekends, but it is not usually possible to accommodate events during the day in Michaelmas term (Oct-Dec) and Hilary term (Jan-Mar). Until now!
From October 2026, we are reserving some time in our timetable for you to network with our students on Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes. Lunchtime is one of the busiest times in the department, so is an ideal time to promote your organisation to our students for maximal impact.
We have reserved one of our mezzanine event spaces (12:00-14:00) and one of our lecture theatres (12:00-14:00) for you to book, subject to our usual booking conditions. We don't mind whether you use our catering service, or bring in external catering, but because the sessions occur during the lunch break, we insist that the students receive lunch so they are fuelled and ready for an afternoon of maths.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! We are very happy to promote recruitment events hosted here in the Mathematical Institute. Speak to the events team when booking your event.
At the editor's discretion, we will promote your event in one edition of our Student Bulletin, which goes to all our undergraduate and MSc students every Friday in term time. To do this, the events team will ask you to provide a short abstract of your event, plus optionally at most one graphic and at most one link (to a registration form, for example), at least a fortnight before the start of your event.
Unfortunately, we have limited capacity to share recruitment events taking place outside of the Mathematical Institute with our students. You may want to consider promoting your event via the Oxford University Careers Service.
We don't know! We can't guarantee how many students turn up to any particular event.
For the networking lunches, we have reserved L3, which has a maximum capacity of 110 people.
Yes. If you want students to sign up in advance, please send us a link to an online registration form to circulate when we advertise the event.
No, we are unable to share students' personal data with you. However, if you so choose, you can collect data directly from the students in a GDPR-compliant way, either during the event or via a registration form.
All of our events are subject to availability and our standard booking conditions. We recommend booking at least a month in advance to avoid disappointment.
Careers Fair
Every November, the department plays host to the Jobs for Mathematicians Careers Fair. This fair is a fantastic opportunity to engage with students, researchers and alumni exploring careers involving mathematics. The fair is organised by Oxford University Careers Service, and you can find out more on their website.
