Welcome to the website of the Infectious Disease Modelling group in the Mathematical Institute (University of Oxford), led by Dr Robin Thompson. The group sits within the Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology on the fourth floor of the Mathematical Institute.

The research undertaken in the group involves the development of novel mathematical approaches for modelling infectious disease outbreak dynamics and planning interventions. We construct stochastic and deterministic models, and we parameterise the models using statistical inference techniques. The main aims are not only to generate projections during specific infectious disease outbreaks, but also to understand general outbreak dynamics and to develop extensible mathematical tools so that effective outbreak control measures can be devised.

Our research group is linked to the JUNIPER Consortium - a network of researchers from across the UK who work at the interface between mathematical modelling, infectious disease control and public health policy.
