Please complete this form if you would like to volunteer to mentor a small group of students in an area of your choosing as part of the new Directed Reading Programme (DRP) initiative. You will be asked to give a topic outline and a suggested reading list.
The DRP aims to promote scholarship outside of the taught curriculum and develop undergraduate research skills. Simultaneously, it supports the Mathematical Institute’s endeavour to increase mentoring opportunities for ECRs and DPhil students, whilst strengthening its culture of collaboration.
It has been agreed that contributing to the DRP will count towards DPhil student broadening requirements: supervising one reading course will count for one broadening course (but only one unit of broadening can be obtained via this scheme).
The anticipated timeline for 2025-26 is as follows:
- Week 0 Hilary Term – topics/mentors allocated to undergraduates
- Weeks 1-8 Hilary Term – students meet with mentors on a weekly basis to discuss reading
- Week 1 Trinity Term – symposium with student presentations
(Should the initiative be successful, the DRP will run in Michaelmas Term in future years).
Please note that undergraduates will not receive course credit for undertaking the Programme.
Should you have any questions, please email @email.
