Disability/Communication support

Our Disability Coordinator is Charlotte Turner-Smith and they are typically the first point of contact for questions related to disability support within the Mathematical Institute. They can help with:

  • Arranging note taking for courses.
  • Library access within the department.
  • Accessibility within the Mathematical Institute building.
  • Providing advice for disability-related funding.

More information can be found here. For additional services beyond those offered by the department, students should contact the Disability Advisory Service, which coordinates support on a university-wide level. Their services include, but are not limited to:

  • Library access for other colleges/departments besides the Mathematical Institute.
  • Alternative exam arrangements, teaching adjustments, IT equipment and study technology.

The DAS will work with you to consider your individual circumstances. More information can be found on their webpage, and specific contact information can be found here.

For students whose first language is not English, the University's Language Centre offers courses in Academic English and other resources. Futher details can be found here. The Mathematical Institute may provide students with funding to attend these courses; please contact Dave Borthwick for details. If you're having difficulties accessing the English courses, you can contact Dave Borthwick about this issue too.
