Landon Clay, founder of the Clay Mathematics Institute and generous supporter of Oxford Mathematics, passed away on 29th July.  The support of Landon and his wife Lavinia was the indispensible mainstay of the project to create the magnificent new home for Oxford Mathematics in the Andrew Wiles Building, and this was just one of his contributions to mathematics.  There is more about his life, work and support of the international mathematical community on the department website and on the Clay Mathematics Institute website.
