Directed Reading Programme (DRP)

The DRP is a new initiative being trialled this year, the programme will allow Part A & Part B students guided access to scholarship outside the taught curriculum, with Postdoctoral Fellows and DPhil students acting as mentors. The anticipated timeline for 2025-26 is as follows:

  • Friday, Week 8 Michaelmas Term – list of topics advertised to students
  • Wednesday, Week -1 Hilary Term – applications to be submitted via webform (to include confirmation of college tutor approval)
  • Week 0 Hilary Term – topics/mentors allocated
  • Weeks 1-8 Hilary Term – Students meet with mentors on a weekly basis
  • Week 1 Trinity Term – symposium with student presentations on research

Please note that there will no course credit for undertaking the Programme, rather it is intended to broaden learning, develop research skills and improve collaboration within the Mathematical Institute. We hope that you pursue this opportunity to enhance your understanding of Mathematics!

To register your interest please complete this webform. All applications will be reviewed by a panel who will look into the academic performance of each student, with particular focus on how well the student's studies tie in with the proposals selected. Additionally, students are required to have the support of their college tutor to begin a DRP.

Institute Notes

The Mathematical Institute has a collection of institute notes which were written to support previous lecture courses, though many contain material which is also relevant to current lecture courses.  The institute notes are available online (Oxford single sign-on login required).
