IT Facilities Access

Note: Within the department you can access 4 different wireless networks: MATHS (requires a departmental account), eduroam (useful for local and roaming academics, as you use an eduroam account not a local account), OWL (Oxford Wireless LAN), and The Cloud (useful for those without an eduroam account, such as members of the public or very short term visitors). In general, eduroam is the recommended Wi-Fi network for those that can use it, and does not require a Maths IT account.

Applying for a Maths IT Account

In the majority of cases, the Maths IT account application form is completed as part of larger processes such as HR onboarding (for employees/staff), academic administration (for certain graduate student programmes), or visitor processes. In these cases, login details will be provided on your arrival.

Undergraduates, OMMS and MTP students are not provided Maths IT accounts by default, as they will primarily use their own devices and central university services, and thus have no need of a Maths-specific account. Nonetheless, they are welcome to an account within the department if needed, in which case they should complete an application form.

To request a Maths IT account, please fill in the online IT Account Application Form.

Note when applying for an account you are signing up to the university and departmental regulations for the use of IT facilities.

About the Application Process

The application forms includes questions to determine your eligibility and membership category. If you are unsure which to select, please contact the person that referred you, or email @email for assistance.

Once your application is submitted, it will be sent to the appropriate team (HR, Academic Admin, etc.) for approval. This will be displayed on the form.

If your application is approved, it will be passed to the IT team to create your account.

You will then be provided with your new login details - typically in-person when you join the department, via Microsoft Teams if you are an existing University member, or via another secure communication method otherwise. (Note that we cannot send passwords via email.)
