As well every European leader you can think of, this week DPhil student Rebecca Crossley visited Number 10 Downing Street, home to the Prime Minister, to present work she recently carried out while on internship with the Department of Health and Social Care.
The work was a national hackathon run by Evidence House, a government data science team, focused on accelerating the UK’s transition to clean power and achieving net-zero carbon emissions. The team of civil servants and energy industry data scientists developed an algorithm to identify and optimise potential locations for renewable energy generation across the UK. The experience introduced Becky to new mathematical concepts and the team were one of the finalists, hence the presentation. Neat.
