EA OxfordEffective Altruism Oxford’s Arete Fellowship

Interested in leveraging your skills to improve the world? TheArete Fellowship is a beginner-friendly 6-week seminar programme aimed to help you think about how you can have a positive impact on the world, starting on the 3rd week of term, depending on your availability. Each week, fellows will be given 1.5-2 hours of reading and exercises to do prior to a 90 min small group discussion.

Topics covered will include: research into effectiveness and impact, effective charities, animals and moral consideration, the moral status of future generations, AI safety, existential risk and high-impact careers. Readings are ordered by importance so please do not worry if you are occasionally unable to complete everything.

They're particularly excited about maths students taking part as they think rigorous thinking skills are invaluable for solving complex problems such as mitigating risks from AI.

Check out our syllabus here.

The Fellowship is completely free of charge and open to all undergraduates and postgraduates. No prior knowledge of Effective Altruism is expected, though we recommend potential applicants watch this video.

The deadline for Effective Altruism Oxford's Arete Fellowship is midnight on Sunday 26th of January, so please apply here now if this interests you!
